A classified graduate student has been admitted to the university and fulfilled all program admission requirements.

What does conditionally classified mean?

A conditionally classified graduate student has been admitted to the university, but has not yet satisfied all program admission requirements. Your admission letter from Humboldt as well as your "My Checklist" on myHumboldt will state what specific documents or tasks you need to complete in order to fulfill program requirements and progress to classified graduate standing.

Humboldt does not defer admission, so if for any reason you cannot attend your first semester you will need to re-apply to the university for the next semester you want to attend.

What is candidacy?

A student who has advanced to candidacy is officially recognized by the university as a candidate for the degree. Your advancement to candidacy serves as a contract between Cal Poly Humboldt and you indicating that by successfully completing the courses and culminating experience listed on the candidacy application you will receive a master's degree from Cal Poly Humboldt.

It is recommended that you apply for candidacy and graduation at least one semester before finishing all your degree requirements. Early application ensures that you will receive your degree check in time for adequate planning for your final semester(s) of enrollment.

Check with your department/graduate program coordinator for their internal deadlines to allow sufficient time for review. The deadlines to submit your thesis/project to Digital Commons are:

  • Spring Graduation: May 6th, 2024
  • Summer Graduation: July 22nd, 2024
  • Fall Graduation: December 16th, 2024

Where and when will I receive my diploma?

Where and when will I receive my diploma?

Approximately three to four months after the semester has officially ended your diploma will be mailed to the address on your student profile. Keep your personal information such as address, email and phone numbers updated on MyHumboldt. For additional information visit the Office of the Registrar’s website.

To change your graduation date submit the form online via Adobe Sign.

Students who postpone graduation after the expected date of graduation has passed will be charged a $25 re-application fee.

Do I have a time limit to complete my Master's degree?

Title 5 Education of the California Administrative Code of Regulations limits the maximum time for completing a master’s degree program to seven years. See the Graduate Student Handbook for additional information.

You must apply for an education leave of absence for each semester you are not attending Humboldt.

You must attend at least one term prior to requesting a leave of absence. Complete an Educational Leave Agreement and obtain approval from your advisor, committee (if applicable) and program graduate coordinator.

How can I register for graduate continuous enrollment through Extended Education?

The minimum requirements to enroll in one unit of a discipline-specific x693 course are advancement to candidacy, current graduation date on file, and completed all your coursework. In addition, each program has specific requirements.
